Directions (1-5) : Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II  given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statements and —

(1) if the data in Statement. I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
(2) if the data in Statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.

(3) if the data in Statement I alone or in Statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.
(4) if the data in both the Statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.
(5) if the data in both the Statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.

1. Which bag amongst J, K, L, M  and N is the heaviest?
I. Bag N is heavier than J and M. Bag K is heavier only than bag L.
II. Only three bags are lighter than J. The weight of bag N is 13 kg which is 1 kg more than bag J.

2. In a row of 40 boys, how many boys are standing between A and B?
I. A is 21st from the left end of the row.
II. There are 9 students between B and C who is 9th from the right end.

3. Is the time in the clock 3 O’clock now?
I. After half an hour, the minute and the hour hand of the clock will make an angle of exactly 900 with each other.
II. Exactly 20 minutes back, the hour and the minute’s hand of the clock coincide with each other.

4. Are all the five friends viz. P, Q, R, S and T who are seated around a circular table facing the centre?
I. P sits third to the left of Q. Q faces the centre. S and T are immediate neighbour of each other. R sits second to the right of T
II. S sits second to the right of R. R faces the centre. Both T and P are immediate neighbours of S. Q sits second  to the right of P.
5. Is P the grandson of Q?
I. Q is the father of M. M is the sister of T. T is the mother of P.
II. S is the son of P. V is the daughter of P. R is the brother of T.



ANSWERS
Solutions (1-5)

1. (3)
Using either statement alone, Bag N is the heaviest.

2. (5)
Using both statements together.
B’s position from right end = 9 + 9 + 1 = 19th
B’s position from the left end = 40 + 1 – 19 = 22nd
Since A is 21st from the left end, there is no student between A and B.

3. (4)
From statement I alone, The time is not 3’O clock now as at 3:30 the angle between the two hands is not 900.
From statement II alone, The time now is not 3’O clock as at 2:40, the minute hour and the hour hand do not coincides.

4. (2)
From statement I, all the friends may or may not be facing the centre.
From statement II, P is definitely not facing the centre. Hence all of them are not facing the centre.

5. (4)From statement I and statement II, it is gender of P is not clear.
